Chetan Mistry

Name: Chetan Mistry

Ministry: Municipal Affairs and Housing

Years doing the B4UW: 2023 Prince Edward County (2023)

What’s your day job? Manager, Building Services Transformation (Building and Development Branch)

What’s your past biking experience?
Century rides (United Way Durham Region, Epic Ride Halton Region, Ride to Conquer Cancer), Ride with local club in Richmond Hill/Aurora.  Zwift rider during indoor winter months.

What’s your inspiration for this ride?
A personal challenge, a chance to visit Northern Ontario (a place I’ve never travelled to), an opportunity to raise funds for United Way (a charity that supports many local causes).

How are you preparing for B4UW? Indoor rides on trainer and regular outdoor rides planned throughout Spring/Summer.

What do you think will be your greatest challenge on the ride?
Stopping my IT band from flaring up.

What do you like to do other than riding your bike? Spending time with family and friends, following my favourite football team (aka “soccer” by some).

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:  Love the cold and did the New Years Day Polar Bear dip times.

I used to work for two United Way (UW) funded not-for-profit organizations in Toronto and recognize how this funding has supported people with disabilities and newcomers to Canada find meaningful work. This is why I ride – to give people of all stripes a helping hand so that they can get to where they want to be in life. UW funding empowers people to begin this journey because the first step is often the most difficult to take.
